Married Women over 30 years to get the vote
Labour plans state control of industries......
Government announces meat rationing for all London and Home counties adults to 20 oz per week.
- 6th February : The Representation of the People Act received the Royal Assent today giving married women over the age of 30 the vote. Nine days after the Lords amendment to introduce proportional representation was defeated the new Act giving married women over 30 with the minimal property qualification the vote became law. (The voting age for all women was lowered to 21 in 1928)
- 8th February: Meat rationing along with butter and margarine will begin at the end of the month. Adults in London and the Home Counties will be allowed just 20oz of meat per week.
- 26th February: A special one day conference of the Labour Party has approved a new constitution pledging 'to secure common ownership of the means of production and the best obtainable system of popular administration and control of each industry and service'.
