SCC Highways admits to paying out over £67,000 in claims from motorists

Significant increase in insurance pay-outs for cars damaged by potholes on Suffolk roads

Despite the County Highways receiving grants to repair potholes in our roads many still remain in a sorry state. It seems that at the same time as the Conservative controlled Suffolk County Council is planning to make even more cuts to services it is happy to pay out thousand of pounds to motorists in claims for vehicles damaged on Suffolk's roads.

Data published under Freedom of Information laws has shown that, between 1 January and October 16th last year, Suffolk Highways had already paid out £67,819.07 for vehicle damage (including insurance pay outs, costs and legal fees). This is a significant increase from the previous year, when pay-outs for the whole of 2017 totalled £26,004.63.

Reporting faults with pavements, roads, footpaths etc.

Click on the "Report" icon, and choose the relevant category.

Then follow the instructions online to report the problem.

You should receive an email confirming receipt of your report.

Any problems deemed as causing an immediate danger to public safety should be reported to Suffolk Highways on 0345 606 6171.
