Part of a liberal family in Europe

Through our membership of ALDE, the Alliance of Liberal and Democrats for Europe, the Liberal Democrats have links with liberal parties from across the continent. Last Thursday, ahead of the European Council at which David Cameron negotiated the EU deal, our own party leader Tim Farron attended a Pre-Summit meeting with key figures in the liberal landscape in Europe, including (amongst others) no fewer than seven prime ministers.*

Seven prime ministers? A full quarter of those who later sat round the table and negotiated with David Cameron to agree the current EU deal? Indeed so. Our friends in Europe include the liberal prime ministers of Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Slovenia.

As well as issues related to Britain's upcoming EU Referendum, other topics discused include the migration crisis and the current political situation in Poland.
