Merger of Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils

27 Jan 2017

With no public vote or referendum to justify their actions, and scant regard for democracy, Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils have agreed to a formal merger, to form the largest district council in the whole country. The merger is still subject to approval by the Department of the Communities and Local Government, and (in September 2017) by the Secretary of State. If everything proceeds as planned, the two district councils will formally merge in May 2019, when a reduced number of councillors will be elected for the new East Suffolk council. The new monster district will stretch from Lowestoft all the way down to Felixstowe.
