BETSON, SAMMY (INDEPENDENT) 293

CASAGRANDE, FREDA (LABOUR) 336

EWART, JULES (LIBERAL DEMOCRAT) 213 (14.7%) +7%

Speaking after the result was declared on Friday morning at the Melton offices of the SCDC, Lib Dem Jules Ewart said

" I am delighted that we have almost doubled our share of the vote on a much lower turnout. This was a very significant contest for Leiston, having an all women contest on the 100th anniversary of women winning the right to vote".

In a message to the ruling Conservative, Julia said 'there are some very significant developments impacting the villages and local residents are looking for the Council to listen to their concerns and support them over the coming months".

Julia thanked everyone who had supported her during the campaign and the voters of Leiston, Middleton and Thebeton who came out and voted Liberal Democrat.
