Jo Swinson leads on Climate Emergency as Tories threaten C4
LIB Dems brighter future campaign - 13 days to polling day
Climate Change Leader's debate on C4 Tory and Brexit leaders fail to appear so C4 licence is threatened by Tories
Ed Davey, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor and Deputy Leader said:
"Tonight Jo Swinson showed what it means to lead on tackling the climate emergency. Boris Johnson's failure to even turn up shows his arrogant disregard for the climate crisis facing our planet".
"Like Boris Johnson's ice sculpture, the Tories are happy to watch your future melt away, thanks to their disastrous Brexit which will leave us with less influence and less to invest in tackling the climate emergency" .
"Only the Liberal Democrats have a clear, realistic but radical plan to achieve net-zero by 2045, delivering the change our planet needs. A Liberal Democrat government will generate 80% of our electricity from renewables by 2030, plant 60 million trees a year and invest £100 billion to build a brighter future for our planet".
A Liberal Democrat government:
-
Will cut emissions drastically by 2030.
-
Is committed to generating 80% of our electricity from renewables within the next 10 years.
-
Will insulate every low income home by 2025 and all homes by 2030.
-
Will plant 60 million trees a year.
-
Will invest £100 billion over the next 5 years to build a brighter future for our planet.
Following last nights debate the Tories have threatened to review C4 public broadcasting licence after Johnson and Farage declined C4's repeated invitations to attend
According to BuzzFeed News, the Conservative Party is threatening to review Channel 4's public service broadcasting obligations after the broadcaster replaced Boris Johnson with an ice sculpture at Thursday night's election debate.
In a war of words between the Tories and Channel 4, a Conservative source told BuzzFeed News that if they win the coming election they will reassess the channel's public service broadcasting licence.
The move came after Channel 4 said it would empty-chair the prime minister and Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage at its climate change leaders' debate, after the two leaders declined to take part.
According to BuzzFeed News, Channel 4 News, said: "These two ice sculptures represent the emergency on planet earth, not in any human form but are a visual metaphor for the Conservative & Brexit parties after their leaders declined our repeated invitations to attend tonight's vital climate debate."
