James Sandbach ~ the best choice for Blything

15 Apr 2017

Local campaigner and Saxmundham Town Councillor James Sandbach is the best choice to represent Blything on the County Council.

James has loads of experience and energy. He stood for Suffolk Coastal in the last general election and has been an active Town Councillor over the last two years working to improve local youth facilities and preserve precious heritage and environment. James has worked for a range of campaigning and advocacy organisations and knows how to get things done.

The county council elections here are a contest between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party and the Green Party are way behind and can't win here. More and more people are saying they will back James on Thursday 4th May to stop the Conservative cuts and back the Liberal Democrats' positive plan for Suffolk.

Council must tackle EDF on Sizewell

There has been a fantastic response by the local community to the energy giant EDF's stage 2 consultation. With over 1,000 consultation responses sent in, EDF needs to back down on key issues like the super-campus, clogging up our existing roads and refusing to publish any meaningful environmental impact assessment.

James believes that the County Council must now step up to the plate in holding EDF to account to the community, and use the power and clout the Council has to stop the most damaging aspects of EDF's construction proposals. James has been a consistent campaigner on Sizewell issues; he wrote Saxmundham Town Council's robust stage 2 response, supports local campaigning groups and believes the nuclear energy industry has far too much power.

James commented, "It's time for the County Council to take on the EDF juggernaut, now backed to the hilt by Teresa May's hard Brexit Government who are intent on scrapping the application of the essential safety and common regulation regime (EURATOM) which keeps the nuclear industry in check."
