Resounding support for Staying Together as Ipswich Exit from Brexit Rally attracts hundreds to March for Europe

On a day when Labour Shadow spokesperson Owen Smith MP was sacked for speaking out and demanding that the British public get a voice through a referendum on the Brexit deal and Channel 4 and the Guardian made explosive claims about the Leave campaign's conduct during the EU referendum hundreds of supporters for Staying Together gathered at University Campus Ipswich for a March for Europe.

Organised by Suffolk EU Alliance, the rally attracted supporters from across Suffolk and neighbouring counties as part of a day of Pro EU action. During the day cross-party speakers addressed supporters both inside the Campus and on an outside stage.

Daisy Cooper - former Liberal Democrat candidate for Suffolk Coastal and narrowly defeated in St Albans in 2017 - said: "The British public must have a say on the Brexit deal.
"People are rightly concerned that the Brexit negotiations are taking longer than anyone expected.
"the Government is making concessions at supersonic speed, EU health workers are leaving the NHS at an alarming rate and people are starting to ask what the cost of Brexit really is".

Chair to Suffolk EU Alliance, Jules Ewart, said: We are delighted with the turnout approaching a thousand people. We are staging a series of short speeches from people across the spectrum who will share their experiences. We are getting close to the end game and we're still none the wiser over exactly what it is the government wants us to 'get behind'. We welcome anyone who would like join us fight to retain our existing advantages for our children and grandchildren to have the right to benefit from the opportunities that we have enjoyed, namely the right to study, work and retire anywhere in our wonderful and diverse continent.

Suffolk Lib Dem Chair John Shreeve said, 'We are the only UK political party to offer a clear, consistent message on Europe. This a critical moment in our history and our children and grandchildren are going to have to inherit the damaging consequences to our economy and society of these largely political negotiations. The Lib Dems offer a sensible, middle way through what is the infighting between the factions within the two main political parties'.

During the day the Party distributed yellow tulips to members and newly signed up members. John said, this has been a very positive day for us, our stand has been busy throughout the afternoon and we have signed up several dozen new members for local Lib Dem parties'.

Speaking about the claims by the whistle blower that the official Leave campaign allegedly spending limits, lied to voters and then they tried to cover it up, Lib Dem Brexit spokesperson, Tom Brake MP said,

'These are allegations that go to the heart of Theresa May's Government. It's clear the narrow referendum win for Leave is tainted.

Brexiteers and their allies in the right-wing media will do everything they can to play this story down. We cannot let them get away with it.

The case for giving the people the final say on Brexit has never been stronger - and we need more people on our team to help make that case'
