Lib Dems contest six of seven Suffolk seats

Lib Dems stepping down in Bury St Edmunds as part of 'Unite to Remain' agreement

There will be Liberal Democrat candidates in six of the Suffolk seats. In Bury St Edmunds the Party have agreed to stand down for the Green Party candidate.

The 'Unite to Remain' agreement was forged by the 'Remain" alliance of the Liberal Democrats, Greens, Plaid and Change UK and successful in the Brecon & Radnorshire by-election and involves agreements in 60 constituencies to maximise the 'Remain' vote. Liberal Democrats have also agreed to stand aside in a small number of seats where pro Remain Independents are standing.

The Brexit supporting Labour Party leadership refused to join any Remain supporting agreements and will be opposing Liberal Democrat candidates and are not standing aside in any constituencies. Charges echoed in the 'two party' left supporting media that the Lib Dems shouldn't be opposing 'Remain supporting' Labour candidates rings somewhat hollow. The Party rightly points out that regardless of any candidates pro European leanings, the Labour Party is at best ambivalent on Europe and elected Labour MPs will be expected to fall into line and support the pro-Brexit leadership of Corbyn following a well worn path of fence-sitting over almost four years.
