The creative sector is vital to the UK's economy, and is estimated to be worth £71.4 billion per year, employing 1.68 million people. EU funding through "Creative Europe" (a programme of support for the creative arts in the European Union) has helped with the development or distribution of some of the UK's most high-profile recent films, such as:

  • The King's Speech (£1 million)
  • Slumdog Millionaire (£1.3 million)
  • The Iron Lady (£1.5 million)
