It's fair to say that the Question Time audience last night for the party leader slots last night didn't seem to show much warmth to the Liberal Democrats and leader Jo Swinson.
And that's because the BBC choose to make it that way. More specifically, the BBC 'balanced' the audience based on the number of MPs each party has in the House of Commons, rather than - say - the party's current levels of political support.
That meant only about 3% of the audience was meant to be Lib Dem. So it looks like there were just 2 or 3 Lib Dems supporting members in the BBC's 'balanced' audience.
While all the leaders took some tough questioning, at least Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn had somewhere in the vicinity of a third of the audience backing them.
It was a especially hostile night for Jo Swinson as the Party's record in coalition took centre stage as the Corbynistas piled in laying blame after blame at the Lib Dems door whilst Boris Johnson only took responsibility for his last 100 or so days in office deflecting any criticism for the Tory government with his 'record' as London mayor. Meanwhie Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn reinforced his long standing Brexit credentials by confirming that even after negotiating a new Deal with the EU he would neither back it nor vote for Remain. The behaviour of a true statesman!
The BBC and ITV have already declared for this binary election (other parties are available). The pro Brexit Tory press continue with their relentless push to severe the UK's partnership with the EU and the Guardian have virtually abandoned any attempt at a left of centre neutrality and have now virtually reproduced Labour's Manifesto free of charge from selected supermarkets. What a choice the nation faces according to the UK media.
Jo Swinson however faced a hostile set of questions in a cool, calm and dignified manner. Whilst BBC compere Fiona Bruce interrupted her relentlessly, barely allowing her to properly develop her answers, Jo stuck to her guns. Labour may not like having opposition prepared to stand its ground and fight to Remain in the EU but it has only itself to blame. Only the Lib Dems can stop Johnson, Labour can't.
