A12: Proposals for a bypass between Saxmundham and Wickham Market

14 Sep 2017
Bypass

The A12 is critical to many facets of life in Suffolk Coastal, and there have been many calls to improve the single-carriageway section through Farnham, Stratford St Andrew, Little Glemham and Marlesford, particularly in light of the increased traffic that is expected if the Sizewell C development goes ahead. Suffolk County Council has been working on proposals to by-pass these four villages, with the stated aim to "support and deliver economic growth in East Suffolk and enhance the quality of life for residents", and they are now presenting two potential routes for public consultation.

The first of these routes is a single carriageway, and the other (which Suffolk County Council suggests would go further towards meeting the project's goals) is a dual carriageway. The proposed routes are described and discussed in a consultation document, and consultation exhibitions will be held at the Riverside Centre in Great Glemham Road, Stratford St Andrew (IP17 1LL) between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday 20 September and Saturday 23 September 2017.

Suffolk County Council invites you to submit your comments on these proposals by Wednesday 25 October 2017. You can complete their questionnaire online, or contact them at SEGWay@suffolk.gov.uk to request a paper copy that you can submit by post. The questionnaire covers how you use the A12, and the problems that you perceive with it, as well as your views on the proposed bypass routes.
