A message from James Sandbach, Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Suffolk Coastal

James Sandbach

I'm a Liberal Democrat because we're a Party that puts "community politics" first. As a Town Councillor in Saxmundham, I've become very familiar with local issues that I'd like to take to Westminster, including:

  • addressing the problem of hidden rural poverty
  • improving rail and road transport links, broadband speeds and mobile networks coverage
  • getting a better deal for rural local government and public services
  • restraining Sizewell

Another reason why I am a Liberal Democrat is because we're the only pro-European force in British politics, the party having campaigned consistently for more than five decades for Britain to be constructively "in" Europe. A hard Brexit would be a disaster for Suffolk's economy (with unwanted consequences for trade through Felixstowe, services, and agriculture), so my main priority is to stop hard Brexit. But as a pro-European, I'd like Britain to resume a more constructive role and relationship in Europe in the longer term.
