March of a Million and a Record Breaking PetitIon

March 26, 2019 6:40 PM

UK citizens took to the streets, the silent, peaceful Petition soared and Parliament called time on the Tory war. March March 2019 Lds (Liberal Democrats)

As Parliament takes control of the Brexit options, the pressure on the P.M. Government and MPs continues to build to take No Deal off the table and for the people to be given the opportunity to decide the UK's future relationship with the EU.

Hundreds of Lib Dem members and supporters from Suffolk were among the million who marched through central London for a People's Vote on Saturday. It was not a time for a carnival, this time the mood was serious, thoughtful and determined.

In a background to the march a Petition to take Article 50 off the table was hitting hitherto unseen figures and gaining record breaking proportions. As the total number of those having signed passed the 5.750,000 figure on Tuesday the East Suffolk Party area had recorded an estimated 18,000 signatures.

In 226 seats the number of signatures was higher than the majority of the sitting member and it clearly having an impact on MP's in these seats as some voice a first, cautious support for a second vote..

By 5pm Tuesday the Petition was still recording over 120 signatures per minute and Suffolk had registered 53,368 signatures over its seven parliamentary constituencies as follows:

Suffolk Coastal 9,440

Bury St Edmunds 9,210

Central Suffolk & N Ipswich 8,009

South Suffolk 7,660

Ipswich 7,574

West Suffolk 6,636

Waveney 4,866

in nearby Cambridge the constituency held its position in the top ten with a total of 26,756 signatures, still well below the 35,547 currently recorded by Bristol West. Revoke Article 50

Liberal Democrat members and supporters must not let up on the pressure and ensure every MP realises the scale of the support for the Country to remain close to the EU. There are still many who have still to be asked to sign the petition.
